The Sunday Post: Making Memories

I’m sitting here smiling in my little nest as I write this. I’ll get to why in a minute. It’s been a lazy day today but it feels good to do as close to nothing as possible. I’m working on laundry, watered my plants, and got on the yoga mat for a quick practice, but I’ve been lounging around most of the day so far.

Yesterday we ended my daughter’s 30th birthday week with a brunch with bottomless mimosas, followed by more drinks at a local bar. I met many of her friends and she tells me everyone thought I was a “cool mom.” I didn’t feel so cool when they dropped me back home around 7:30 and I crashed on the couch and ordered from DoorDash for dinner. I was tired, hungry, and ready to just have myself for company for at least the next 24 hours. That’s why I’m enjoying this introverted day and feel no need for company or to even leave my nest today. I had a great time and spending hours on a rooftop restaurant with great views and good people was a very enjoyable way to spend a spring afternoon. I only knew a handful of the people there beforehand, and half of those I had only met once or twice. I’m not the greatest at small talk so I was content to just observe the various groups but I am grateful to those who took the time to sit with me and talk a while. The discussions at the bar later, about college sports and which is harder, baseball or softball, were so entertaining and animated that I will remember them for a long while.

So I’m smiling because I had a good day yesterday. Right now I’m smiling though because the last text I got from my Friday night date ended with “As long as you wear a dress like the one you wore Friday night… I’ll go anywhere you want.” Yes, it was a good date. Conversation was easy, dinner was good, and it was a lovely evening for a walk around town after dinner. My only regret is that we didn’t walk longer. I had parked a little ways off and after we started walking I think I took us in the direction of my car a little sooner than I should have. We could have walked a little longer. But it was nice, and I’m looking forward to checking out more restaurants with him. I think it will be my turn to pick out a spot, and he’s already agreed to go anywhere I want, so…
