Music Fridays: Don’t Start Now

I was hoping to bring you a new song today, something straight off the list of new music releases, but as of now (Thursday evening) I have not found one I love yet. Instead I offer you something still fairly new, and very much new to me. I’ve only recently started listening to Dua Lipa. She makes frequent appearances in the “happy” playlists I play while I work or when I’m in the car. The video is from NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series, this one recorded during the pandemic so it’s not at the usual “tiny desk” location. All five songs are great and would work for this post, but the clip I chose is “Don’t Start Now.”

Did a full 180, crazy

Thinking ’bout the way I was

Did the heartbreak change me? Maybe

But look at where I ended up

I’m all good already

So moved on, it’s scary

I’m not where you left me at all…

Dua Lipa

Now, I’m not claiming to have moved on completely, or that I don’t still have sad days. For some reason, the last couple of days have been a little more emotional than usual. I’ve also felt a few hot flashes though so maybe it’s just hormones. But I am moving on and trying not to waste too much time thinking about the past, whether it’s the past nine, ten months of heartbreak, or the previous ten years of happiness.

Bonus:

Earlier in this NPR set Dua introduces the song “Love Again” by saying it’s about manifesting good things in your life when things aren’t going your way. I’m not in love yet, but I would like to think I can manifest it into my life when I’m ready for it. Watch it below or rewind to watch the complete five-song set.
