Am I Hungry or Bored?

I mentioned the other day that I wanted to do more in the kitchen this year and was going to create monthly challenges for myself and anyone who wanted to join me. Well, I’ve been busy in the kitchen already but haven’t gotten around to anything on my challenge list yet.

Over the weekend I watched the movie Julie and Julia again (when I wasn’t binge-watching Netflix’s Bridgerton and I guess that might have added a little extra inspiration. Funny how in the movie Julie’s blog grew so quickly and people just seemed to magically find it. Maybe I should be writing about food …

Anyway, I had all these ingredients I wanted to use, so this past weekend I made cinnamon rolls, from scratch, cookies, and bread.

Sweet and savory treats to start the new year

Good thing a diet is not on my list of resolutions. I did give away half the cookies and half the cinnamon rolls, and I only made 6 of the rolls of bread. And the rolls were perfect for a breakfast sandwich and then another to go with the rest of my black-eyed pea salad at dinnertime.

Next weekend I’l tackle the Thai dish. I’m making Thai Coconut Yellow Curry Chicken and Rice. I just need to pick up a couple more ingredients and I’ll be all set.

The recipes I used this weekend:

  • Peppermint White Chocolate Chip Cookies (I didn’t have peppermint but I had a bag of Andes Mints chips so I used those; perfect!)
  • Copycat Homemade Cinnamon Rolls (recipe calls for baking these for 20 minutes but mine were a little under-baked and I ended up putting them back in the oven even though I had already added the icing)
  • No-Knead Artisan Mini-Rolls (mine were most definitely not uniform in size so I would not have received the Paul Hollywood handshake, but they were delicious nonetheless)

Now that I’m done with Bridgerton I’ve been watching Insecure on HBO Max, with Issa Rae. I just finished the first season and I’m queuing up the next season as I sign off here. I’m sure I’ll be done with that too soon, so let me know what else I should be watching.

If you haven’t watched Virgin River, I highly recommend it.
